Economic Development

Successful Economic Development requires investment, planning and co-ordination across many different disciplines and organisations. The North West economy represents the diversity that makes up our region. Areas of high unemployment and poverty are in contrast to some of the wealthiest communities in the UK. People with low levels of skills and education live next door to the highest concentration of universities in Europe. Meanwhile, large-scale traditional manufacturing remains, reflecting the region's history as the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution, while it has seen the growth of the largest cluster of futuristic bio-manufacturing in Europe.

The challenge is to invest where investment is needed to give people new opportunities with the skills, knowledge and ability to work - while also supporting our success stories and provide them with the support to become world-class businesses.

4NW keeps regional leaders focussed on this challenge, lobbying for the public investment to make it happen, and the need for organisations to work together towards this common aim. 4NW's Economic Development Group discuss how we can contribute towards the economic development of our region. June 2010: 4NW's Economic Development Group has published a report detailing practical case study examples of linking economic and sustainable development within the North West. This can be found in the documents column.
