Equality & Diversity

The Northwest faces considerable equality and diversity challenges - improving community cohesion; increasing the representation of women, disabled people and black and minority ethnic people in positions of professional and political leadership; reducing poverty which blights the opportunities of all - including young and old, those from ethnic minorities, women, disabled people and gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people.

Equality and diversity issues cut across all 4NW responsibilities - economic development, transport, housing and scrutiny. We work in partnership with NWDA, GONW and NHS NW to reduce hate crime and domestic violence, to ensure economic participation for all, and to promote diversity as an economic, social and cultural asset.

These goals are increasingly being mainstreamed within local authorities and 4NW works with the North West Improvement and Efficiency partnership on this agenda. 4NW also supports the North West Equality and Diversity Group.
