Overwhelming support for 4NW

Posted On 25/03/2010

A survey of key stakeholders for 4NW has shown overwhelming support for the work being carried out by the regional body. A statutory consultation involving 67 respondents including government agencies, local authorities, business leaders and Third Sector representatives, had revealed 100% backing for existing arrangements. Some constructive suggestions were put forward through the survey and these are now being considered for implementation. The Chief Executive of 4NW, Phil Robinson outlined the findings to the Leaders Board at its meeting in Wigan on Friday 19 March, before presenting this year's 4NW Business Plan.

Extensive progress on regional strategy

This year central government has asked regional bodies to concentrate their business plans on the development of their long-term regional strategies. The 4NW Chief Executive was able to highlight to members the extensive progress that has already been made in developing RS2010: "We are well ahead of many parts of the country with a distinct advantage of having formed effective partnerships with the business community and Third Sector organisations."

The new business plan continues to emphasise that consensus is to be the rock on which a vision for the Northwest will be built.

The coming year will also see 4NW take the leading role in delivering the regionally agreed transport priorities including the current Delivering a Sustainable Transport System (DaSTS) programme and continue the Regional Spatial Strategy (RSS) Partial Review together with other statutory functions as the regional planning body.  In collaboration with the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) and the NWDA, 4NW will set out a full programme of work for the newly formed Regional Housing and Regeneration Board which will also inform RS2010.
