Board agrees to oppose Lake District planning application in line with regional land use strategy
Posted On 25/03/2010
Members of the Leaders Board have agreed to oppose plans to develop a 15.5 ha site as a business park on the edge of the Lake District National Park. Due to the contentious nature of the proposals it was considered that the 4NW's response to this consultation should be taken to the Regional Leaders Board. 4NW is a statutory consultee on proposals of this scale.
Likely appeal of decision
The site is located in open countryside adjacent to the A591 between Kendal and Staveley. South Lakeland District Council, in whose area the proposed access roundabout to the site would fall, have already considered and refused the application.
The National Park Authority refused the application on 3rd March and the applicants are likely to appeal that decision. If the applicants do appeal, 4NW's response will be considered by the planning Inspector in reaching a decision.
The view of 4NW was that the proposals, due to their scale combined with their location, materially conflict with and prejudice implementation of a number of RSS policies.
