4NW Equality Champions

Posted On 05/11/2008

Equality and Diversity is a key feature of our work at 4NW. We have the ability to influence and implement policies and initiatives that incorporate measures to ensure maximum benefits for all parts of the community across the region.

We can achieve our aspirations in this area through the implementation of the Single Equality Scheme (SES) which has been developed to cover all areas of our activity including our role as an employer. We will report on progress against the SES to Board and we will make sure employees are kept up to date through the newsletter and through our team of Equality Champions.

The Equality Champions are staff members Paul Hegerty, Alec Curley, Simon Crawshaw and Dawn Parkes. The Equality Champions meet on a regular basis and will drive forward best practice in Equality and Diversity and make sure it is at the top of our agenda. Their role will constantly evolve but below are some of the things they have done already:

  • Input into the design and evaluation of the Equality and Diversity training employees have taken part in over the last few months
  • Taken a key role in developing our guidance and templates for conducting Equality Impact Assessments. These are detailed appraisals of policies and initiatives to ensure they meet the needs of all parts of the community as closely as possible
  • They are working with an external consultant to develop good practice guidelines for organising events
  • They have already commenced reviewing and updating the SES

As their role evolves they will communicate Equality and Diversity news to other 4NW staff. They will assist teams and individuals in their work where there are Equality and Diversity aspects to consider. They will also contribute to the induction of new employees by explaining our approach to Equality and Diversity.

Above all the Champions will drive the agenda forward in this area and ensure it is given the importance it must have in all our work.
